The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) signed memoranda of agreement (MoAs) with three firms, namely D.K. Agriculture Works, Badhni Kalan, Moga; Rupal Agriculture Works, village Himmatpura, Moga; and Patiala Discs Corporation, village Neelpur, Rajpura; for commercialization of PAU Super Straw Management System (SMS) Technology.
Dr R.S. Sidhu, Registrar, PAU, while congratulating the proprietors, said the agreement will go a long way in popularizing the environment friendly paddy straw management technology in fields.
Dr Navtej Singh Bains, Director of Research, PAU, and representatives of the firms inked the MoAs on behalf of the University and their firms, respectively.
Dr Bains said that University was making best efforts to curb crop residue burning menace in the state through collaborations with the industry.
Dr S.S. Chahal, Adjunct Professor, Technology Marketing and IPR Cell, said PAU has entered into 119 MoAs for the commercialization of PAU Super SMS Technology till date.
Dr Ashok Kumar, Additional Director of Research (Farm Mechanization and Bio-energy), PAU, said the machine will facilitate the operations of other in-situ straw management machinery like PAU Happy Seeder, Mould Board Plough, etc., which will ultimately check straw burning and help farmers to enhance soil productivity with in-situ paddy straw management.
Dr Manpreet Singh, Assistant Engineer, Department of Farm Machinery and Power Engineering, said the technology is gaining momentum because of its use with combine harvesters for cutting, chopping and uniformly spreading loose straw while harvesting paddy. Dr Rajesh Goyal, Assistant Engineer, Department of Farm Machinery and Power Engineering, was also present on the occasion.
