Government has launched Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. The main objective of the scheme is to provide insurance coverage and financial support to the farmers in the event of failure of any of the notified crop as a result of natural calamities, pests & diseases.

Singh said apart from extending scope and coverage in terms of area, crops and risk, the aim is to ensure premium rates that states and farmers have to pay comes down. Also we want the farmer to get immediate relief of at least 25% at times of crop loss due to any natural disaster.
Co-operative and Panchayat Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Gopal Bhargava assured the state Assembly that henceforth receipt will be provided to farmers for the premium paid by them under crop insurance scheme.
Madras High Court is having confidence that the Centre would look into a plea for individual crop insurance scheme as early as possible.
