Government grant Rs 180 crore for farm mechanization


Bihar state agriculture minister Prem Kumar said the government's aim is to help farmers adopt the latest technology for improved output. "Through farm mechanization, we intend to maximize the use of technology in farming sector, provide work to the rural youth and increase productivity, which will augment farmers' income," he said.

Bihar state government has granted Rs180 crore for the development of mechanized farming.

The grant can be utilized by the farmers to avail 69 types of farm machinery from sowing and reaping to other activities. "We also intend to add a few more machines to this list in near future," Kumar said..

Farmers interested in availing of the grant can submit their applications through the department's website. "Once they receive permission, they could buy the machinery from either agricultural machinery exhibition or the market, according to their choice and convenience," said a source..

In view of the farm mechanization scheme, the state government is also trying to support farm machinery manufacturers based in the state. "This will not only help the farmers in easily availing these types of machinery, but also help with the subsequent servicing of the machines in case of wear and tear," said a source adding that the department on Tuesday had a meeting with local manufacturers to help the farmers..
