A demonstration-cum-farmers training programme on “Paddy Straw Management” in the village Tihara under the project “Enhancing Diffusion of Paddy Straw Management Technologies in Punjab,” funded by NABARD organized by the Department of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU).
Welcoming the farmers, Dr Dharminder Singh, Assistant Extension Specialist, asked the farmers to shun the practice of paddy straw burning. He also discussed the ill effects of straw burning on human and environmental heath.
The role of paddy straw incorporation in enhancing soil fertility elaborated by Dr K.B. Singh, Soil Scientist. He also shared information on the judicious use of fertilizers in wheat crop.
Dr Jasveer Singh Gill is another expert from Department of Farm Machinery and Power Engineering, he highlighted different techniques of paddy straw management. He explained the benefits and functioning of PAU cutter-cum-spreader and PAU Happy Seeder for managing paddy straw and sowing wheat. He also addressed the queries of the farmers about these machines.
Mr Parveen Bhatia, DDM, NABARD also attended this programme. Later, sowing of wheat with PAU Happy Seeder was demonstrated at farmer’s field, which was attended by nearly 40 farmers.
