Seminar Organized on 'Agriculture Trends and Technologies'

Ludhiana, Punjab: A two-day national seminar on “Agriculture Trends and Technologies” was organized by The Department of Economics, Gujranwala Guru Nanak Khalsa College. This seminar was sponsored by the India Council of Social Science and Research (ICSSR), New Delhi.

The guest of honour for the seminar was Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon, Vice-Chancellor Punjab Agricultural University. The trends and patterns in agricultural growth at the national and sub-national levels in India are discussed by him. He also provided the data on important variables such as area, production and position of India in world agriculture along with emphasis on the issue of depletion of natural resources.

Three main aspects of agriculture — research, production and marketing emphasising more on nanotechnology and organic farming are described by Dr SS Johal, Vice-Chancellor, Central University, Bathinda, in his inaugural address.

Agriculture had to be strengthened because of its livelihood concerns, said Dr Gurbachan Singh, chairman, Agricultural Scientists and Recruitment Board Indian Council of Agricultural Research. He covered topics like the degradation of natural resources, declined land holding sizes and high dependency on monsoon.

This programme contained some main events like, Placement Drive, Industrial Visit, Technical Workshop, 'We Share We Care' Drive at KCW, Father of the Nation Remembered, Poem Writing Competition, etc.
