The Punjab Government has prepared a comprehensive plan for the changing of Rajasthan & Sirhind
feeder canals to provide irrigation services in a better way to the farming community of state. Under
the plan, 196 kilometres long canals would be realigned.
Punjab Government has decided in favour of maintenance (Realigning) of 196.65 kilometre long canals of
Rajasthan and Sirhind feeder. The project would cost Rs. 1979 to the state exchequer and it would be completed
in 4 years.
State government has spent Rs. 1293.88 crore on maintenance and repair of 160 canals from 2007-2015 which would
provide irrigation facilities to farmers of 1574 villages.
Thana Dam and Nara Dam were constructed in kandi area at a cost of Rs. 136.66 crore which provides irrigation
facilities for 1520 hectare area of 12 villages. Rs. 377.43 crore worth projects were sanctioned for carrying
out works related to stoppage of floods.
