This year mango export especially Alphonso mango is facing a serious threat in
world market, as reported by Mumbai market source. Alphonso mango export consignment is
not fetching market due to huge incidence of fruit rotting.
The reason behind this is stated as an excessive use of agrochemical by the
Maharashtra farmers. Indias big mango exporters in Mumbai and worried.
In Maharashtra state nearly 50,000 hectares of land of Konkan is under Alphonso
cultivation, producing as much as 30matric tonnes annually. Alphansos are major part of
mango export, which was estimated at Rs. 80 crore in 1998-99.
