Krishi Vigyan Kendra Faridkot under the leadership of Dr Jagdsin Grover, Assoc. Director (Training) organized Farmers’ Scientist Interface on “Machineries for in-situ crop residue management”: organized at KVK, Faridkot on 10-10-18 at village Ran Singh Wala, under the project “Promotion of Agricultural Technologies for in-situ crop residue management”.
160 farmers’ from the village Ran Singh Wala and neighbouring village participated in the programme. During the programme, participants were acquainted in detail about the various technologies which are available for in-situ crop residue management.
Dr Rakesh Kumar (Assoc. Prof. Agril Engg) discussed about all the possible combination available for straw management among the participants, like harvesting of paddy with combine with SMS and then sowing of wheat with Happy Seeder, use of reversible MB plough, mulcher etc. Dr. Sukhwinder Singh, Assistant Professor (Soil Sci.) urged the farmers that incorporating the straw into soil not only helps in reducing the pollution but improves the soil health, if practiced for longer period, He also briefed about the nutrient and monetary losses and due to burning of straw.
Dr Sukhwinder also shared the impotance of soil and water testing with the farmers. In the end Dr Jagdish Grover not only shared his experience in detail among the farmers regarding the technologies for in-situ crop residue management like if farmer intend to sow vegetable after paddy he should harvest paddy with combine with SMS, then incorporate the straw using reversible MB plough, followed by rotavator, then sowing of vegetable.
If farmers have time before sowing wheat, after harvesting paddy then wet mixing technologies were also shared among the participants. Dr Grover also motivated the participants for not to burn straw by opting which ever technology fitted for them. He also answered the various queries raised by the farmers regarding working of different in-situ machineries, but also about the various problem that occurs while machinery is in operation in the fields.
Dr Grover also urged to the farmers’ to grow pulses and oilseed crop that would not help in diversification, but also help in increasing their income by processing of these crops. He also shared about the services rendered by KVK for the farming community. Sh. Jaswinder Singh an innovative young farmer share his views about organic cultivation of vegetable. S. Vishwainder Singh thanked KVK team for guiding the farmers and also the villagers to make the progarmme an successful event.
