Karnataka Seeks Partnership with Israel in Agriculture

BENGALURU: To introduce and adopt latest Israeli model of agriculture practices in water conservation and post-harvest technology, Karnataka government has begun the ground work.

As a step towards achieving it, a Karnataka delegation led by Agriculture Minister, N H Shivashankar Reddy, Horticulture Minister, M C Managuli, and Secretary of Karnataka agriculture department Maheshwar Rao, are visiting Israel at the moment.

Dana Kursh, Consul General of Israel to South India said, “The visit is a follow-up to the state Budget announced by Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumarswamy to implement technologies in agriculture, horticulture, including drip irrigation. We highly appreciate Karnataka’s initiative to allocate Rs 300 crore to adopt Israeli agriculture technology in Karnataka.”

She further said “These developments are a new beginning for us. This comes at a time when Israel is celebrating Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year).”

“Honey (which symbols sweetness) and Pomegranate (like the many seeds to a year filled with many good deeds) both from the mother land through agriculture. May both nations keep on growing this partnership,” she said while wishing people of both the countries Happy New Year.

At a ceremony held at consulate office in Bengaluru, Rabbi Tzvi Rivkin blew the Shofar (a horn carved out of ram’s horn) to herald the beginning of Rosh Hashanah.

The Rabbi said, “This is asking god to hear the people’s voices and fulfill their wishes.”

“Eating these fruits from our land is also an opportunity to celebrate Israel-India agriculture partnership,” she explained Kursh.
