Guwahati: To transform Assam into an eco-friendly organic State, a seminar-cum-workshop on organic farming organized by the Society for Environment, Health, Awareness of Nutrition and Toxicity (SEHAT), Voice of Environment (VOE) and North East Wetland (NEW) jointly at the Panchayat Office, Neli, in Morigaon recently.
Dr Jaswant Ray from Delhi is the chief guest of the program. He apprised the participating farmers and local bodies about the value of organic farming and its effectiveness in protecting human health and the natural environment.
The event was attended by over 100 farmers and local bodies. He also discussed potential benefits of green technology in agriculture and utilisation and significance of bio-fertiliser.
The topics such as earthworm, vermi-technology, vermicompost, chemical fertiliser, pesticides, and agriculture productivity and its environmental impact are also covered in the meet.
Earlier, the programme started with a ‘safai abhijan’ on the Panchayat office premises, followed by a tree plantation drive by environmentalist Alkesh Sam Kashyap.
