The Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kheri (Sangrur) organized a one day seminar on "Organic Farming: Biological control of insect-pests and diseases in kharif crops" on 12.06.2018 under the guidance of Dr. Mandeep Singh, Associate Director (Trg.), KVK, Kheri. At the outset of the seminar he extended a warm welcome to the participants and discussed the scope of organic farming with them. He advised them to market their organic products after proper certification and labeling.
Dr. Amit Salaria, Assistant Agronomist, School of Organic Farming PAU, Ludhiana shared tips on scientific cultivation of different crops without the use of inorganic fertilizers and pesticides. He stressed upon crop rotation, green manuring, vermi-compost and use of well decomposed FYM to improve the soil health and providing proper nutrition to crops. He also threw light on benefits of organic farming and emphasized for involvement of more number of farmers in adopting organic farming.
Dr. Sudhendu Sharma, Assistant Entomologist provided detailed information on identification of insect-pests in kharif crops alongwith their proper control measures.
Dr. P.S. Shera, Assistant Entomologist, PAU deliberated on biological control of insect-pests in kharif crops. He made the farmers aware about natural enemies and their mode of action for the control of harmful insects in kharif crops. He also explained the use of Tricho-cards in different crops like sugarcane, maize and paddy.
Dr. Pawan Kumar, Assistant Professor (Plant Pathology) KVK, Kheri told about disease management in kharif crops through biological methods. He further informed about the use of Trichoderma for seed and soil treatment for the control of seed and soil borne diseases.
Progressive farmers S. Iqbal Singh Sandhu and S. Harnek Singh shared their respective experiences in organic farming and motivated the participating farmers for reducing the use of agrochemicals in the interest of environment and humanity.
