The Punjab Agricultural University in association with ICAR-Directorate of Onion Garlic Research (DOGR), Rajgurunagar, Pune organized the “IXth Annual Group Meeting of All India Network Research Project on Onion and Garlic (AINRPOG).”
In this meet, about 80 delegates from various parts of the country participated. Besides, progressive growers of onion and garlic, representatives of national and multinational companies’ were also present.
Eminent vegetable scientists including Dr G. Kalloo, Former Vice Chancellor,Jawaharlal Nehru Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Jabalpur and Former Deputy Director General (Horticulture), ICAR; Dr K.E. Lawande,Former Vice Chancellor, Dr Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth, Dapoli; Dr T Jankiram, Assistant Director General (Horticulture), ICAR and Dr W.S. Dhillon, ADG (Horticulture), graced the occasion and gave valuable suggestions.
The Director of ICAR-Directorate of Onion and Garlic Research Dr Major Singh presented the project report and elaborated various activities and achievements of AINRPOG.
The Nodal officer Dr Vijay Mahajan presented the action taken report.
Dr R.P. Gupta, Ex-Director, National Horticultural Research and Development Foundation (NHRDF), Nasik; and Dr P.K. Gupta, Director, NHRDF, New Delhi, gave valuable inputs for refining the technical programme of the project.
A team led by Dr Kirti Singh, Former Chairman, Agricultural Scientists Recruitment Board, evaluated the performance of five year research work of 25 centres across the country. Among all, PAU was declared the best centre for onion and garlic research in the country.
Dr B.S. Dhillon, Vice-Chancellor of PAU; Dr R.S. Sidhu, Registrar; Dr N.S. Bains, Director of Research and ICAR officials congratulated Dr A.S. Dhatt, Head, Department of Vegetable Science, PAU and his team for receiving the award and bringing laurels to the university.
