Model Training Course (MTC) on “Green Energy Initiatives in Agriculture to Combat Climate Change”

The training was sponsored by Directorate of Extension, Department of Agriculture, Co-operation and Farmer’s Welfare, Ministry of Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India, New Delhi.

Participants: A total of 25 officials from various states viz., Delhi (2), Sikkim (2) and Gujarat (21) attended the training programme from state departments, ATMA Project, Assistant and Associate Professors of State Agricultural Universities.

8 days Model Training Course (MTC) on “Green Energy Initiatives in Agriculture to Combat Climate Change” has been organized by Department of Renewable Energy Engineering, College of Agricultural Engineering & Technology, Anand Agricultural University, Godhra during 17th-24th December, 2018. The aim of this training course was to provide practical guidance on how to incorporate climate change when dealing with existing challenges in energy resources management, green energy i.e. renewable energy management and its utilization.

The inaugural session of the training was presided by Dr. R. Subbaiah, Principal & Dean, College of Agricultural Engineering & Technology, Godhra. Welcome speech was given by Dr. D.K. Vyas, Associate Professor & Head and Course Director of MTC, Department of Renewable Energy Engineering, College of Agricultural Engineering & Technology, AAU, Godhra. Dr. R. Subbaiah in his inaugural address stated the importance on green energy and its utilization particularly to enhance productivity and reduce Greenhouse gas emissions to combat climate change and also advocated to adopt eco-friendly technologies in future. Er. J. Sravankumar, Assistant Professor and CoDirector (MTC), Department of BEAS, CAET, AAU, Godhra ended the program by expressing vote of thanks.

A total of 35 sessions including lectures and practicals were delivered and conducted by eminent speakers from different institutes on various aspects of green energy. A total of 5 field visits were arranged including 1 MWe Solar Agrivoltaic Plant at Amrol, SPRERI- V V Nagar, Amul Dairy- Anand, MMRS, Godhra and India’s first largest biogas generation plant having a capacity of 14000m3 biogas generation per day at Sundalpura, Umreth. Apart from field visits, we also had our college visit and exposed the participants, the infrastructure we have, technologies developed and the recommendations released by the College. Throughout the training, all the participants were really passionate to learn and enthusiastic to interact with experts.

The Model Training Course covered various topics, such as solar energy utilization, bio-char culture, recent biofuel development and technologies, biomass gasification technologies, energy audit and management, carbon credit using power point presentation and questionnaire mode.
