Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Langroya, SBS Nagar celebrated ‘Soil Health Day’ on 5.12.2018 in KVK premises. The chief guest of this occasion was Dr. Gurbaksh Singh, Chief Agriculture Officer from District SBS Nagar. Programme was commenced by Dr. Gurinder Singh, Demonstrator (Animal Science) by welcoming the chief guest, faculty and farmers that were present on this occasion and he also addressed the objective of organizing this event. About 200 farmers were participated in this programme.
Dr. Manoj Sharma, Associate Director (Trg.), KVK SBS Nagar gave a brief overview of the activities of KVK. He highlighted the relationship of soil health and farming, and explained the benefit of crop residue mixing in field by adopting different means of source of CRM. He lauded the efforts made by farmers as in SBS Nagar, about 360 villages were declared burn free villages in this season and he thanked farmers for this cooperation to save environment. He also stressed that farmers should always test their soil before sowing of next crop for maintaining soil health.
Dr. (Mrs.) Neena Singla Professor (Zoology),explained the effective method of rodents management in field conditions and also demonstrated the method of making bait for rodents.
Dr. Gurbaksh singh Chief Agriculture Officer SBS Nagar he congratulated the farmers as SBS NAGAR was ranked 2nd in zero burning through out the state. He further explained the various schemes regarding agriculture machinery, processing techniques and marketing of processed food.
Dr. Sukhbeer Kaur, SCO, Nawanshahr emphasized on gurbani shalok “Pavan guru paani pitaa, maataa dharat mahat” that farmers should apply this shalok in farming by adopting CRM techniques by non- polluting, our wind, water and soil. She further explained that we should natural methods to preserve our environment and save our earth mother to have healthy life on this planet.
Dr. Sunil Kumar, SCO, Balachour gave the message that farmers should use appropriate amount of fertilizers based upon the soil testing report and also intimated different schemes like drip and micro irrigation and solar energy system that are meant for farmer’s benefit.
Dr. Manpreet Jaidka , Assistant Professor (Agronomy) explained the production technology of rabi crops and effective weed management techniques in wheat crop to increase the yield.Dr. Shikha Bathla, Assistant Professor (Home Science), KVK informed the students about good nutrition and stress management . She also gave handy tips to farmers for healthy life span. Dr. Baljit singh, Assistant Professor (Plant protection )explained eco friendly insects that helps in maintain the soil fertility.Dr. Tejbeer Singh, Assistant Professor (Animal Science) described the care and management of dairy animals during winter season.
On this occasion, Dr.Ambedkar SHG Snawa exhibited their handmade products i.e. sweets and cleaning agents for marketing purpose and also to empower rural women as self employment also lead to better standard of living. Cargil Pharmaceuticals also exhibited the different medicines and products for dairy animals on this event.
At the end of programme 16 farmers from whole district along with adopted villages were honoured by KVK for zero burning of paddy straw in this season. Dr.Ambedkar SHG Snawa also get honored by KVK for outstanding performance in the year among adopted villages.
In the end Dr. Manoj Sharma, Associate Director (Trg.), KVK SBS Nagar thanked all the participants present on this occasion and making this a grand success.
