A Two-day training program titled “Enhancing Farmers’ Income through Export of Farm Produce” was organised by Punjab Agricultural & Management Training Institute (PAMETI) in association with Additional Director General Foreign Trade (ADGFT), Ludhiana at PAMETI, PAU Campus Ludhiana. The training program was attended by 34 extension officials from State Agriculture & Allied Departments.
Dr HS Dhaliwal, Director, PAMETI inaugurated the workshop and highlighted the objectives of this programme. He discussed the new and modern era of product development and marketing of ready to consume product through value addition in domestic and international markets. According to him, the pattern of production and marketing was seeing a substantial shift from no-processing or primary processing to the modern era.
Mr Rajiv Kumar Soni (ITS), Additional Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Ludhiana highlighted the Foreign Trade Policy, IEC Code and role of DGFT in both domestic and international trade operations. Mr. Narinder Prabhakar, Customs Broker from Time Track Overseas Pvt. Ltd, Ludhiana explained the procedure for exporting agricultural commodities and discussed export inspection & certifications in detail.
Ms Bharti Madam, Deputy Director-IT, PAMETI expressed her views on the Agricultural Marketing Information Network and she emphasised the need of integrating IT with the agriculture marketing in the state. He opined that the internet had radically transformed the strategies of building and promoting businesses. Mr Rana, Financial Consultant spoke on the Foreign Exchange Risks and the do’s and don’t for an entrepreneur before entering in to a financial transaction in a far off/unknown market.
Lakhwinder Singh Brar, Deputy Director-Marketing and programme coordinator stressed that there is need to explore the strategies/ways regarding enhancing farmers’ income and earning potential. He said that value addition along with targeted marketing, especially in case of exports had the potential of greatly adding to the farmers’ earning potential.
Dr Dhaliwal proposed a vote to thanks to the office bearers for attending the training session and he said it was an honour for PAMETI to train the staff from agriculture & allied department and hoped that the participants would educate the farmers about the prospects of better marketing techniques to boost their income and profit through domestic & international market.
