The Agriculture Department suggested that farmers can register their names for crop insurance by calling toll-free number 1800-266-9725 for crop loss due to unseasonal rain.
They should register their names within 48 hours of their crop loss owing to natural calamity. Once registered, ICICI Lombard agents would visit the field and make assessment of the loss after which the process of insurance claim would start.
On April 4, representatives of ICICI Lombard visited farm lands at Ramayampet to assess crop loss, said Medak District Agriculture Officer Ajmeera Parashuram. Several parts of the erstwhile district were hit by unseasonal rain and crops, mostly paddy, were damaged on 740 hectares in a matter of four days in Medak, followed by 1,352 hectares in Sangareddy. Crop loss was also reported from Jinnaram, Gummadidala, Patancheru, Hatnoora and Kandi mandals.
In Siddipet, about 15,000 acres of paddy crop and 1,200 acres of maize was lost to unseasonal rain. “A farmer can call the toll-free number; agriculture officials can directly inform the insurance company of the loss or the insurance officials can visit the field to assess losses,” Siddipet District Agriculture Officer Sravan said.
