ASU Again Earns ‘College of Distinction’ Designation

For the fifth straight year, Angelo State University has been named a national “College of Distinction” by the Colleges of Distinction print and online college guide that recognizes colleges and universities implementing best practices in higher education.

Angelo State is one of only 398 schools, representing 46 states, and one of only five Texas public universities to earn the national 2022-23 “College of Distinction” designation.

In addition to its national recognition, ASU earned the following designations for 2022-23:
“Public College of Distinction”
“Texas College of Distinction”
“Military Support College of Distinction”
“Equity and Inclusion College of Distinction”

Schools are selected for the various designations for employing High-Impact Practices and demonstrating excellence in four key areas identified by Colleges of Distinction as the “Four Distinctions” – Engaged Students, Great Teaching, Vibrant Community and Successful Outcomes.

“Every student has individual needs and their own environment in which they’re most likely to thrive,” said Wes Creel, founder of Colleges of Distinction. “We want to extend our praise to the schools that prioritize and cater to students’ goals. We’re inspired by the ways in which Angelo State University immerses students in their fields, all while fostering a welcoming community that will support them through and beyond their college years.”

ASU has also been recognized for three individual academic programs, being named a “Business College of Distinction,” “Education College of Distinction” and “Nursing College of Distinction.” These designations are based on accreditation, breadth of program and a track record for success.

“It is great to have all the members of the Ram Family recognized for the hard work and passion they put into providing our students with the programs, resources and experiences that prepare them for future success,” said ASU President Ronnie Hawkins Jr. “Earning this type of recognition on so many levels signifies that we are succeeding in our vision and mission as a university while also holding true to our Core Values. Being a repeat recipient of the College of Distinction designation also enhances our reputation and our national profile, giving us the opportunity to reach many more prospective students.”

An in-depth profile of ASU will be published in the 2022-23 Colleges of Distinction guidebook and on the CollegesOfDistinction.com website, which provides the information to college-bound students, their parents and high school counselors without a subscription fee.
