Global workshop on tomato farming at Madanapalle
A three-member team of horticulture scientists from New Jersey, USA, is scheduled to hold a global workshop at Madanapalle on January 25 and 26, targeting tomato growers and marketing personnel.
The team representing the global forums of the World Vegetable Center and Association of Vegetable Growers will interact with the horticulture officials and tomato growers of Madanapalle division and discuss the aspects of sowing high-yielding and multi-purpose varieties. The team will also undertake a study tour in the region, visiting fields and eliciting opinion of growers.
Agriculture Market Committee (Madanapalle) chairman Ratakonda Gurappa Naidu, said that following the suggestions of international experts in horticulture, a few experiments were conducted successfully in the Madanapalle region. “We have raised simultaneous patches of tomato, consisting of local and multi-purpose breeds. The latter have shown faster growth and high yields,” he said.
The team from New Jersey will also be visiting the horticulture experiment farms in Madanapalle and Ramasamudram mandals.
