Farmers and Farm Women Attended PAU Kisan Club Meet

A total of 381 farmers and 50 farm women from Punjab participated in the monthly training camp of PAU Kisan Club, organized in the University.

The Chief Guest, Dr Ashok Kumar, Director of Extension Education, PAU, exhorted the farmers and the farm women to go for University recommended varieties and technologies, farm literature and training courses for enhancement in production as well as income.

Dr T.S. Riar, Coordinator of the club, called upon the farmers to produce pulses, vegetables and fruits for domestic consumption. He advised, “Don’t depend on the retailers and shopkeepers for marketing, rather opt for village marketing for good profit.”

Dr Amarjit Singh, Professor of Plant Pathology, educated the farmers about disease management in paddy and Dr Vijay Singh, Professor of Entomology, dwelt on insect-pest management in rice and cotton.

Dr S.K. Thind, Incharge, Plant Clinic, urged the farmers to avail the facilities available at PAU for plant diagnosis and soil testing. He also highlighted the role of PAU Plant Clinic in agricultural development.

Dr Jagbir Kaur Rehal, an expert of Food Science and Technology, gave demonstration on the preparation of homemade mango juices and Dr Rupinder Kaur, Coordinator of women’s wing of the club, said the members were provided tips for health care in rainy season. At the end Mr Manpreet Singh Grewal, President of the club, proposed the vote of thanks.
