Commonly found in most cultivated soils. Favoring Conditions Cool soil temperatures, minor root injuries and neutral to alkaline soils. Symptoms more pronounced as crops stress increases. Often a component in early field decline or collapse. Overall Plant: - mild wilting during heat, recovers overnight. Leaf canopy and vigor reduced. Bottom portion of plant distressed, leaf burn. Leaf: - vein and leaf yellowing followed by leaf burning in an angular or "V" pattern between veins. Stem: - Internal browning of lower branches, no discoloration of pith or leaf stems. Root and fruit: - faint browning of the xylem tissue, can be confused with Fusarium wilt. |
