Paprika Chilli

Spice paprika was recently introduced to our country. `Arka Abir’, a selection from Byadagi chillie has been recommended by IIHR, Bangalore. It has high colour value and oleoresin yield. It matures within 160 to 180 days. It yields 19.29/ha dry chillie. It gives 5.78 % oleoresin. Paprika, being a transplanted crop nursery is first prepared for raising the seedlings. Over 30 to 45 days old seedlings are transported to the main field. Land is transported to the main field. Land is thoroughly prepared and ridges and furrows are taken 60 cm apart. Seedlings are planted 45 cm apart in furrows, after adding both organic and inorganic fertilizers. Soon after planting shade is given to the seedlings.

About 100 kg farm yard manure, 325 g urea, 875 g Mussorie phosphate and 80 g Muriate of potash are applied for 4059.67 (one cent) as basal dose. About 160 g urea and 80 g potash are top dressed, 25 days after planting. The remaining 160 g urea is applied after one month as second top-dressing. Weeding and earthing up are done along with each fertilizer application. Baking the soil around the plants especially during supper helps to increase plant growth and yield.
