Onion is an important export vegetable, which fetches a huge amount of foreign exchange every year. The Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Banglore has developed two new onion hybrids, viz. ‘Arka Kirthiman’ and ‘Arka Lalima’. These have uniforms bulbs of globe shape. Since there bulbs are firm, they can be stored for 4-5 months at room temperature. Both hybrids can be grown in Kharif and Rabi season. The bulbs of ‘Arka Kirthiman’ have attractive red colour and yield of 40-45 tonnes/ha. While ‘Arka Lalima’ have deep red colour with yield 45 to 50 tonnes/ha |
