New generation chemical Imidacloprid for cotton sucking pests

In rainfed cotton, during the early stages of crop growth, sucking pests viz. Leaf hopper, aphids and thrips cause serious damage leading to stunted growth, curling, crinkling and shrivelling of leaves which ultimately leads to the death of the plant. Insecticide spray to control these pests causes environmental pollution leading to health to hazards both in human beings and in animals. Due to tremendous pressure from environmentalists and IPM researchers, chemists are now forced to work on synthesizing new chemicals which are target specific, effective at low dosages, safe to natural enemies and dissipate quickly without leaving residues on crops.

The new chemical Imidacloprid belongs to a new group of chemicals known as cholronicotinlys. This compound has a superior performance on sucking insects such as leaf hoppers, aphids and thrips. The chemical is available both in powder form (70 WS) and in liquid form (200 SL).

The foliar application at 100 ml/ha controlled the sucking pests effectively. In this experiment the results revealed that the ecological and physiological selectivity have been obtained by seed treatment and foliar treatment of Imidacloprid. The chemical is also effective on rice brown plant hopper sugarcane termites and chilli thrips.
