Mobile Precoolers

India is the largest producer of fruits and vegetables in the world. However, 20 to 30 per cent of fruits and vegetables grown are wasted due to lack of adequate post harvest preservation

The Indian growers of perishable products should have access of state of the art technology in post harvest preservation and to obtain a competitive price for their products. The mobile precooler has been successfully developed, whereas stationary precooler is in the advanced stage. Both the precoolers are being developed using indigenous technology to suit Indian conditions.

Other benefits:

1.Increase in shelf-life, quality and product value

2.Decrease in the capacity of refrigeration system of the subsequent cold storage and results in lower initial investment on the cold storage.

Mobile precoolers: By `precooling’ produce immediately after harvest, mobile precoolers allow to preserve the freshness, to enhance the shelf like and thereby, add value to products. Additionally, they reduce the burden on the refrigeration capacity of the subsequent cold storage. Developed under the technology development mission sponsored by the Planning Commission at the world-renowned IISc, Bangalore, Rinac precoolers are fully integrated, automatic, programmable, and user-friendly. They offer rapid cooling of produce (just 2 hours), optimum and uniform air velocity, and controllable high relative humidity to reduce moisture loss. A full back-up powerpack and microprocessor-based controls offer failsafe, convenient operation. Truck-and trailer-mounted models allow easy movements between farms. Each pre cooler can be accommodate up to 1500 kgs of produce, and can take 2 batches per day. A hermetically sealed compressor with air-cooled condenser, along with 100 mm-thick, steel-clad RPUF panels ensure consistent temperature control.
