Micro nutrients for guava

Guava is very hardy, long lived and it needs comparatively little attention. Micro nutrient deficiency is a common physiological disorder seen in Guava. Zinc deficiency results in intervenal cholorosis, formation of little leaves and restricted internodes leading to "rosette". This is common in water logged areas. This disorders can be rectified by spraying 500g of zinc sulphate + 350g of slaked lime dissolved in 72 litres of water. Two such sprayings have to be given at 15-30 days interval.

Cholorosis and marginal scorching and little leaves may also be seen along with above symptoms. This may be due to the combined deficiency or non-availability of zinc, magnesium, manganese, copper and iron. To rectify this disorder 25g in each of ZnSo4, MgSo4, MnSo4 and 12.5g in each CuSo4 and FeSo4 have to be dissolved in 5 litre of water and sprayed through foliage four times during the time of flushing, one month after first spray, at the time of flowering and during fruit set.

Deficiency of Boron will hinder the development of fruits. Fruits will not grow into big size, even those reaching a fair size do ripen properly and become hard with brown corky skin. Some times there will racking of such fruits. Spraying 0.3 per cent borax (3 g/lit. of water) can rectify such disorder. The marginal scorching of leaves can also be due to potash deficiency for which 1 per cent murate of potash can be sprayed.
