Statistics

India is endowed with a significant share of the world’s livestock population. Growing steadily and continuously. India’s livestock currently accounts for more than half (53%) of the world’s buffaloes. 20% of goats, 15% of cattle, 4% of sheep and poultry each and 1% of pigs. In fact, goat population has doubled itself in the last 3 decades. While the cattle population increased by about 1.8% in the period 1982-87, buffalo population has grown by 10% in the same period. It needs emphasis that cattle population has decreased by 1.6%, while buffaloes increased by 2.3% in the next years (1987-92).
