Biofertilizers are environment friendly and low cost or almost nonmonetary input, which can play a significant role in plant nutrition. Following are the biofertilizers used in crop production and these are available at almost all the agricultural colleges, universities in a packets with specific quantity that is 250g per packet. Azotobacter All plants, trees, vegetables, get benefited. However, especially cereals, vegetables, fruits, trees, sugarcane, cotton, grapes, banana, etc. are known to get addition nitrogen requirements from Azotobacter. Azotobacter also increases germination of seeds. Seeds having less germinating percent if inoculated can increase germination by 20-30%.
Rhizobium Rhizobium is a symbiotic bacterium, colonizes on roots of the specific legumes to form root nodules. Rhizobium fix nitrogen for the benefit of a leguminous host plant. Azospirillum It colonizes the root mass and fixed nitrogen in loose association with plants in an environment of low oxygen tension. These organisms require low energy, well effective even in saline alkali soils, perform well up to 30-40o C, and establish well in the roots of the crop. The response of these organisms in increasing grain yield have been found excellent in rice and good in toerh cereals like wheat, barley, oats and pearl millet. Blue green algae In India, a general predominance of blue green algae except in acidic soils of Kerala, Assam and parts of Tamil Nadu. Forms like Anabaena, Nostoc and Calothrix were found to be widely distributed throughout rice growing tracts of India.

Phosphorus solubilizing bacteria The response of phosphobacterin is high in soils rich in organic matter and low in available phosphorus. Microphos inoculant containing Pseudomonas striata and Bacillus polymyxa increased the yield of wheat, rice, chickpea, sugarcane and potato markedly. |
