New Sungro Cabbage varieties

These hybrid varieties are marketed by the Delhi based Sungro Seeds.

Sungro 93:

A strong, vigorous hybrid of medium late maturity with outstanding field holding ability. It produces very compact, bluish green, ball shaped heads of 2.5 to 3.0 kg. weight. It gives a yield of 700 quintal in one hectare. Suitable for long distance transportation.

Sungro 94:

A good hybrid of medium late maturity. It produces medium sized, ball shaped, dark bluish green, solid heads with good wraper leaves. Each head weighs 2.0 to 3.0 kg. On an average it yields 700 quintal in a hectare.

Sungro 95:

Another vigorous promising hybrid. Maturity a few days later than Sungro-93. Heads are globular, very compact, bluish green and weigh around 2.0 kg. It has excellent field holding ability. Average yield is 650 quintal in one hectare.

Package of practices:

Season: Grows well at temperature of 15 to 250C.

Soil: - Thrives best on well drained deep, humus rich soil. Optimum pH 6.0 to 6.5. for obtaining high yields avoid planting cabbage year after year in the same field.

Seed rate per hectare: Hybrids – 300 – 350 gm.

Nursery rising: Seedlings are ready for transplanting within 3-4 weeks.

Nutrition per hectare:-

Manure: - Incorporate thoroughly 40 to 50 tonnes of well decomposed farm yard manure or compost at the time of land preparation.

Fertilisers: - Recommended dose for hybrids –nitrogen 200 kg, phosphorous 150 kg and potash 150 kg. Incorporate half the quantity of phosphorous and potash, while preparing the land.

The balance quantity of nitrogen may be divided in 2-3 equal parts and applied 20, 40 and 60 days after transplanting depending upon the maturity period of the variety/hybrid.

Transplanting: - Transplant seedlings when they are 5-6 leaf stage in the late afternoon. Dip the seedlings in 0.2% solution of Diathene M-45 for a few seconds before transplanting. Give a light irrigation immediately after transplanting.

Add Furdan 12 to 15 kg. Hectare at land preparation.

After 20 days of transplanting spray Neemark 3 to 5 ml./litre of water at 10 days interval.

After 20 to 40 days of transplanting, spray once a week Rogor 1 cc/litre or Dimecron 0.5 cc/lit and Diathene M-45, 2 gm/litre.

  •  

After 40 days of transplanting spray every 10 days 4 gm/litre Copper oxychloride or Diathene M-45 and 2 cc/litre Malathion or Thiodan.
