Identification E.vitella: The moths are small having pale white forewings with broad greenish bands in the middle.

E.insulana – The forewings are completely greenish.

Caterpillars are brownish white with no.of black & brown spots on the body. Hence also called spotted bollworm.

Pupation: in tough silken cocoons either on plants or in soil or among the fallen leaves and rubbish material.

Nature of damage Caterpillars bore into tender shoots, flower buds and fruits.

As a result, the shoots dry, flower buds & fruits drop prematurely. Fruits remaining on the plants get deformed and often show exist holes of the larvae.

Control measures Remove & destruction of infested shoots, fruits and shed material.

Spraying with 2% Carbaryl or 0.1% or 0.06% endosulphan or 0.01% cypermethrinor fenevalerate.

Remove & destroy attacked shoots and fruits; dust $% Carbaryl or 0.05% Malathion or Dichlorvos (DDVP); remove all fruits before spraying.

Identification The adults greenish yellow with forewings having a black spot on each on the apical margin and two black spots on the vertex of the head. The nymphs are also green. They walk diagonally.

Pupation: in leaf tissues along the viens.

Nature of damage Both nymphs & adults suck the cell sap from the lower surface of leaves.

The damaged leaves curl upwards along the margins turn yellowish & then brown and show burnt of patches, pitch adversely affect the growth and yield

Control measures Spray with 0.05% endosulphan or 0.02% phosphamidon or 0.03% dimethoate as soon as the infestation of pest is noticed.
