Pakistan : Rise in cotton prices

The dealer’s form Pakistan reported that the cotton prices rose during the week as slower new-crop supplies from the southern province of Sindh fell short of growing textile demand.

Further report stated that the rally was also helped by dwindling stocks of the state Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) and a rise in the prices of unprocessed seed cotton at the farms.

The TCP, which has remained an active seller of cotton in the domestic market in July, only has 57,000 bales (375 lbs. each) of unsold stocks from the old crop. Brokers said the new-crop supplies were quoted in the range of 1,950 to 1,975 rupees ($36.7 to $37.15) a maund (37.32-kg).
