Precautions in operation of a Thresher

According to a release around 2500 people met with an accident while working on power thresher. Normally these accidents take place because of negligence, wearing loose cloths, ladies and children working with machine. Therefore it is very important to follow certain points for safety.

  • Well trained workers should work on power thresher.
  • Never allow disable person or patient to run the machine.
  • Never wear loose cloths while working on machine.
  • Don’t put excess amount of produce in the machine. It can dislocate the belt, which will further lead to accidents.
  • Never smoke near farm, if require smoke far away from the farm and demolish it completely.
  • Machine should not run continuously for more than 8 hours. The person should also take rest. It reduces the possibility of accidents.
  • First aid box is very necessary so that the injured person will get immediate help whenever required.
  • While feeding, the operator should not insert his hand deep in the feeding tough.
  • The thresher should be operated at the speeds recommended by the manufacturer for the particular crop.
  • Before starting the machine the main pulley should be driven by hand to ensure that there is no obstruction inside the machine.
  • The machine should be installed at a leveled surface as far as possible.
  • The direction of the machine should be set in consonance with the direction of the prevailing wind.
  • The thresher should be operated at the speeds recommended by the manufacturer for the particular crop.
  • The feeding should be continuous and uniform.
  • Bearings and other working parts should always be properly greased and oiled.
  • The sieves should be inspected frequently and cleaned from time to time to avoid stacking.

When the machine is not in use, after threshing season is over, all the belts should be removed and the machine should be kept in a covered
