Special Management of Cross Breeds.

  1. Cross-breeds are for producing milk therefore they need adequate shade and shetter. They are to be stallfed and not allowed to graze outside.

  2. They should be fed with balanced feed and in relation to body condition, milk yield or pregnancy.

  3. They are creatures of habit, as such their feeding, watering, cleaning should be done at proper time and regularly..

  4. Their health care is important. They need proper preventive raccination every year. There should be adequate spraying of acaricides for control of ticks.

  5. These cows exchibit proper symptoms of oestrous. These cows should be bred by using frozen semen through artifical insemination.

  6. Every time there should be proper selection of bull whose semen is used for breeding. Thus for every new breeding, more milk can be anticipated.

  7. There should be proper record keeping. This shows include.

  1. day to day milk yield.

  2. Date of oestrous, its breeding date calving date

  3. Name of bull; pregnancy diagnosis date.

  4. Feeding of concentrates recording

  5. Vaccination dates/dose/batch no.

  6. Herd record (birth/deaths/sale/cells)

  1. All the data should be properly analysed and inferences should be studied and critically followed.

  2. Every year there should be a definate aim decided and attempts should be made to achieve it. Attempts should be made to produce milk more economically.

  3. Cow-owner should read on new developments in feeds, fodder and management and learn from it. Discuss and exchange views and experences from othrs.

  4. These animals need extra care in summer, close clipping before summer, providing cold drinking water (15 –20 o c) and good ventillation are essential.

  5. Since these animals are stall fed, there is a need for their hoof care, extra grown hooves should be properly trimmed.

  6. Cross breds are varacious eaters. Their managers should be filled at least 20 hours in a day.

  7. Day to day observation of animals, their, behaviour, feed intake, and milk yield should be studied and proper steps taken for correction.

As cross breds are high yielders, clean milk production is must. This means washing of udder drying of udder by clean cloth and full hand milking is necessary. Three times milking at times two milkers/at a time is necessary for cows giving more than 15 litres of milk/day.
