New Technologies Commercialised for Pomegranate by NRCP, Solapur

A Technology License Transfer Agreement was signed between National Research Centre on Pomegranate, Solapur and M/s HortiFloral Biotech, Tembhurni for “In vitro propagation of pomegranate cv. Bhagwa including bio hardening”.

Dr. R.K Pal, Director, NRCP enumerated the benefits of tissue culture raised plants and its possible role in expanding pomegranate cultivation in non-traditional areas. He also emphasized on bio hardening of in vitro raised plants for improved field performance.

Another Technology License Transfer Agreement was signed between National Research Centre on Pomegranate Solapur and M/s Bhosale Nursery, Aurangabad for “Two step pomegranate hardwood cutting protocol including biohardening”.

Using this technology healthy planting material through various antibiotic, fungicidal and hot water treatments can be produced throughout the year under protected structures.

This is cheaper, less labour intensive and farmer friendly technology. The farmers can take regular yield and utilize resultant pruned wood including water shoots for the preparation of cuttings.

The Scientists of NRCP and representative of HortiFloral Biotech were present on this occasion.
