Nagpur, Maharashtra: The department of poultry science of Nagpur Veterinary College run a five-day training programme with the aim of providing alternate source of income. This college got good response from farmers for this training programme.
For the three-year project, state had sanctioned Rs 1.5 crore under Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana. Its mandate was to train 500 farmers in poultry farming in Nagpur district, actual trainings started only in financial year 2016-17.
Sectional head of the department, Dr Mukund Kadam said, "Yet, 400 farmers received training in the last eight months." In getting funds released and setting up training centre at Telangkhedi, first two years of the project went, he added.
Techniques in farming like broiler, layer, cockerel, quail and turkey are taught to participants. During the course information about products from chicken and prevention of diseases and nutrition of birds are also explained.
Kadam said, "anyone possessing 7/12 extract is eligible for the course. We are also focusing on women self-help groups." This programme is very helpful to farmers.
