Six more custom hire centres are sanctioned by government, so farmers can hire farm equipment from these centres in Dakshina Kannada.
According to H. Kempe Gowda, Joint Director, Agriculture, Dakshina Kannada, this is in addition to five such centres already functioning in the district. The six new centres would manage VST Tillers Tractors Ltd. They have been temporarily proposed at Moodbidri and Surathkal, Sullia, Kadaba, Kokkada and Vitla.
He said that a committee of Dakshina Kannada would take a final call on opening these centres at the places proposed and they would be opened during this kharif season.
The existing five centres are at Panja in Sullia taluk; Uppinangady in Puttur taluk; Panemangaluru in Bantwal taluk; Gurupura in Mangaluru taluk, Kuvettu in Belthangady taluk and managing of these centres are done by Shree Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project NGO.
The centres have 26 types of agriculture equipment and had combined paddy harvesters, paddy-transplanting machines, power tillers, tractors, paddy threshers, mist blowers and the like.
