Vegetable prices likely to go up in Tamil Nadu

In Tamil Nadu as truckers began a nationwide strike to press for their various demands because of this, movement of vegetables, fruits and other goods were affected.

P Muthukumar, a vegetable vendor at Madurai Central Market, Mattuthavani said "The prices shot up by Rs 5 to Rs 10. It will worsen if truck strike continues." The strike affected supply of vegetables to markets.

The Paravai Integrated Wholesale Market depends on 100 trucks ferrying onions, hams and green vegetables. This Market is another major vegetable market in the south handling as much as 15,000 tonnes of vegetables every day.
