Qualification | : | Masters’ degree in Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Development, Rural Development, Economics or related field, with particular interest in quantitative and qualitative analysis primary survey and secondary data and interest in seed systems. |
Experience | : |
2-3 year of work experience in the field of expertise. Demonstrated experience in quantitative and qualitative methods of data collection. Familiarity and experience with household and regional level surveys. |
Requirements | : |
Strong analytical skills and ability to process both quantitative as well as qualitative information Excellent interpersonal skills, including gender sensitivity and ability to work in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams as well as to develop strong and effective working relationships with partners. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English, including ability to present coherent and convincing analyses to different audiences. Ability to travel and undertake fieldwork in rural contexts. Good working knowledge of statistical and econometric software packages (esp. SPSS, Stata), experience in data base management, Microsoft packages and electronic communication tools. |
Responsibilities | : |
Support the project: Climate resilient maize for Asia (CRMA) for ensuring food security and enhancing income for resource-
poor farming communities in the tropics in identifying appropriate study sites within the project target environments and
contribute to seed sector scoping studies accordingly. Compile relevant secondary information on maize production, markets, sector actors and policies, esp. regarding rain- fed stress-prone environments obtained from project partners. Conduct context interviews with seed stakeholders in the study area in collaboration with partner seed companies and NGOs in the project. Conduct seed sector scoping studies and compile market maps at district level in the targeted environments of the CRMA project. Assess farmers’ perceptions on new-stress resilient maize cultivars dis-aggregated by socio- economic parameters, including farm size, ethnicity and gender, applying Focus Group Discussions (FGD), stakeholder interviews and rapid adoption surveys. Collect data and analyse changes in maize production and farm household’s income through rapid adoption surveys in target ecologies. Collaborate with the project leader, economist and scientists from other disciplines (esp. Agronomy and Plant Breeding) and project partners to assess maize-based farming system and related institutions in the region to improve rural incomes and livelihood opportunities. Write up findings and contribute to academic publications. |
