Kozhikode: The Agriculture Department is hosted a three-day ‘Kisan Meet’ at Koottalida in Kottur grama panchayat from
January 2, for showcasing successful farming models and agriculture ventures.
Exhibitions, farm-oriented contests and technical sessions on modern farming ventures was added colour to the meet, which
was opened by Agriculture Minister V.S. Sunil Kumar.
The fair would be part of the Prime Minister’s Krishi Sanjayee Yojana (PMKSY), and fair would help in disseminating the
latest agri-related information to the public, said Purushan Kadalundi, MLA, the chief patron of the organising committee.
He also said that, to host the meet, Balussery constituency was selected taking into account its popularisation of small-scale
agriculture farms.
To implement innovative programmes of the Agriculture Department, the Kisan Meet was aimed at celebrating the district’s
notable achievements in agriculture and efforts by farmers, said M. Nandini, Principal Agriculture Officer and Director
of Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA). She said, “In 2016, we managed to expand farming to around 800 hectares
of fallow land, which is a proud achievement,” she explained.
Farmers get an opportunity to attend five technical sessions on major areas of farming in the modern era in the meet and
during the sessions, cost-effective farming ventures, seasonal cultivation, and organic farming among the topics that
was discussed, said V. Prathibha, president of Balussery block panchayat and one of the chief coordinators of the programme.
At the venue, as many as 18 stalls was set up, all highlighted successful farming ventures and efforts of successful
entrepreneurs.
