Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya was established on 1st November 1978. Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya renamed as Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya in June, 2001.
The University has four constituent colleges namely The College of Agriculture, Dr.G.C.Negi College of Veterinary & Animal Science, the College of Home Science and the College of Basic Sciences. These colleges provides six Bachelor Degree programmes and the Dean, Post Graduate Studies offers 26 Masters Degree & 19 Doctoral Degree programmes.
At present 775 girls and 601 boys students are on roll and more than 6250 students have passed out from the University since its inception. There are twelve students hostels, including one International Students Hostel.
University has three Regional Research Stations at Bajaura, Dhaulakuan and Kukumseri and ten Research Sub-stations at Kangra, Malan, Nagrota, Salooni, Akrot, Berthin Sundernagar, Sangla, Leo and Lari situated in all districts of the State except Solan and Shimla.
Near about 800 quintal breeder seed of different crop varieties is produced by university. The University has released 13 improved agricultural tools to reduce drudgery in farming. University is as considered most serene institution in the region with extremely conducive atmosphere to pursue academic and research activities.
