The Haryana Agricultural University was established on February 2, 1970, as a result of bifurcation of the erstwhile Punjab Agricultural University. From 31st October, 1991, it has been renamed as Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University. Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University popularly known as HAU, is one of Asia's biggest agricultural universities, located at Hisar in the Indian state of Haryana. University got name of India's seventh Prime Minister, Chaudhary Charan Singh. He is a leader in agricultural research in India and contributed significantly to Green Revolution and White Revolution in India in the 1960s and 70s.
University is spread over an area of 7219 Acres at Hisar and 1426 Acres at outstations. It won the Indian Council of Agricultural Research's Award for the Best Institute in 1997. The university has scientifically well planned spacious buildings to accommodate four constituent colleges viz. College of Agriculture, College of Agricultural Engineering & Technology, College of Basic Sciences & Humanities and College of Home Science.
HAU also provides a number of welfare facilities e.g. a 50 bedded hospital; a fully equipped faculty club; a campus school; community centre complex; staff quarters, guest houses, etc. University has four research station namely Rice Research Station Kaul, Regional Research Station Rohtak, Regional Research Station Karnal and Regional Research Station Bawal.
