Peach ‘Flordaprince’ and ‘EarliGrande’

Peach is the third important fruit grown in India. A few lowchilling varieties were introduced from the USA and tested at the PAU Ludhiana. Based on their performance, ‘Flordaprince’ and ‘EarliGrande’ have been recommended for commercial cultivation.

Flordaprince

‘Flordaprince’ is an early-ripening variety. Trees of ‘Flordaprince’ are vigorous and semi-upright growing. Fruits are large with little or no tip, pubescent and semi-cling. External surface of fruits is red-blush with yellow ground colour. Fruit flesh is yellow and firm with some red colour near the peel.

‘Flordaprince’ give 39% more yield than ‘Flordasun’. Its fruits ripen in the last week of April, taking 70 days from full bloom, the average yield being 100 kg/tree. The fruits of ‘Flordaprince’ are superior to ‘Flordasun’ in quality as they have better firmness, high TSS and TSS/acid ratio.

EarliGrande

‘EarliGrande’ is a mid-season variety. Its trees are vigorous and upright. Fruits are large with red blush having medium pubescence. Fruit flesh is yellow, fine-textured with a small amount of red colour near to pit. The flesh is moderately firm, semi-free when fully ripe.

‘EarliGrande’ gave 40% more yield than ‘Shan-I-Punjab’. Its fruits ripen slightly earlier than ‘Shan-I-Punjab’ (first week of May), taking 73 days from full bloom. Average yield is 95kg/tree. Fruits of ‘EarliGrande’ are superior to ‘Shan-I-Punjab’ in firmness. For rest of the quality characters it is at par with ‘Shan-I-Punjab’.
