PAU Organizes Guava Show-Cum-Seminar

“Guava Show-cum-Seminar” organized at Regional Fruit Research Station (RFRS), Bahadurgarh (Patiala) by the Department of Fruit Science. On this occasion, Dr Pushpinder Singh Aulakh, Director of Horticulture, Punjab, was the chief guest.

He elaborated the importance of horticulture in diversification of agriculture in Punjab and urged the farmers to adopt the technologies developed by PAU. Dr Aulakh also highlighted the developmental schemes of the State Department of Horticulture for the welfare of fruit growers of the state.

Dr Ashok Kumar, Director of Extension Education, discussed the importance of fruit crops for increasing the productivity and conserving the environment. He also shed light on nutritional importance of fruits and suggested the farmers to grow fruit crops for domestic requirement by establishing fruit nutrition garden. He also elaborated the extension activities of the University.

The research activities of the Department of Fruit Science shared by Dr M.S. Dhaliwal, Additional Director of Research (Horticulture).

Dr Harminder Singh, Head, Department of Fruit Science, and Dr MIS Gill, a fruit science expert, also shared their views on the prospects of guava cultivation in the state.

Dr Anil Kumar enlightened the developmental schemes of National Horticulture Board, Government of India. In the technical session, scientists of PAU discussed the production, protection and post harvest technologies of guava.

Dr Rajbir Singh, Director RFRS, Bahadurgarh, coordinated the visit of the dignitaries and the farmers to the experimental areas of RFRS.
